Recently, allegations have surfaced against Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, the National Assembly Speaker, regarding her alleged involvement in receiving millions in bribes during her tenure as Minister of Defence.
The Gauteng Hawks, acting on behalf of the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Investigative Directorate (ID), conducted a raid at Mapisa-Nqakula’s home in Bruma, Johannesburg. These allegations have raised concerns and prompted a response from Parliament.

The raid at Mapisa-Nqakula’s home took place on Tuesday, and it was reported that the investigation by the ID into her alleged corruption had been completed.
The Sunday Times had previously reported that Mapisa-Nqakula had received R2.3 million in cash, stuffed in bags, from a contractor in the defence department. However, Mapisa-Nqakula has vehemently denied these allegations.
Surgezirc SA reached out to Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale, who stated that the ID would be the appropriate authority to comment on the matter. However, attempts to reach NPA spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga were unsuccessful.
Parliament has confirmed that a search and seizure procedure, lasting five hours, was carried out at Mapisa-Nqakula’s house on Tuesday morning.
In a statement, Parliament acknowledged that the operation was related to the ID’s investigation into alleged corruption during Mapisa-Nqakula’s tenure as Minister of Defence and Military Veterans.

Parliament further stated that Mapisa-Nqakula maintains her innocence and has nothing to hide. She welcomed the investigators into her home and fully cooperated during the extensive search.
However, these events have disrupted Mapisa-Nqakula’s parliamentary duties, including her role in presiding over President Cyril Ramaphosa’s question-and-answer session in the National Assembly.
Parliament emphasized that Mapisa-Nqakula is committed to serving the public with honour and that her integrity remains unwavering. The allegations of corruption deeply concern her, as corruption undermines the principles of democracy and good governance, contradicting everything she stands for.
