The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in KwaZulu-Natal has expelled former President Jacob Zuma as its provincial chairperson.

This decision comes shortly after the African National Congress (ANC) suspended Zuma for his involvement with the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, which is contesting elections against the ANC.

Zuma, who was elected as Sanco provincial chairperson last year, announced in December that he would not be voting for the ANC in the upcoming elections. Instead, he declared his support for the newly formed MK party.

However, the ANC has challenged the name of the MK party in the Electoral Court, arguing that it belongs to the ANC as it was the name of its military wing formed in 1961.

The expulsion of Zuma from Sanco comes just a week before the ANC’s manifesto launch in Durban, which will be held at the Moses Mabhida stadium. This follows the EFF’s manifesto launch that took place last weekend. The IFP is also scheduled to hold its manifesto launch at the same venue in March.

The ANC had previously announced Zuma’s suspension for his involvement with the MK party. However, the party has stated that they will deal with the issue after the elections, as they do not want it to distract from their campaign.
