ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has reportedly been silenced by the party after making comments about the fire pool at former President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla homestead.
Mbalula admitted that members of the ANC had lied to parliament about the Nkandla fire pool during a speech at Mjindi Town Hall in Barberton.

This revelation has caused tension within the ANC, with the party’s highest decision-making body, the National Executive Committee (NEC), believing that Mbalula was campaigning against the party.
According to News24, NEC insiders have expressed the view that Mbalula must be given guidelines before speaking to the media. They emphasized that Mbalula is not the boss, and that the NEC, along with the president, holds that position.
The ANC chairperson, Gwede Mantashe, criticized Mbalula for his comments, stating that he was carried away by the presence of journalists and said things he should not have said.

In response, Mbalula defended himself, stating that the ANC has protocols and that public spats should be avoided.
However, political analyst Professor Andre Duvenhage from North-West University criticized Mbalula’s approach, stating that it was counterproductive and would not benefit the ANC or President Ramaphosa, whom Mbalula supports.
