The African National Congress (ANC) has issued a formal response following the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) disappointment over their exclusion from the government.
This comes after the ANC decided to enter into a coalition with other political entities post the recent general elections, sidelining the EFF’s proposition.

The ANC’s refusal to form a government with the EFF followed their decision to maintain their power-sharing deal with the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Freedom Front (FF) Plus.
The ANC found the proposition from the EFF to ditch existing alliances unreasonable and moved forward with their plan for a Government of National Unity (GNU) with nine other parties.

ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula was notably vocal against EFF leader Julius Malema. Mbalula accused Malema of inconsistency, citing that Malema had long been an advocate for a GNU, even before the elections took place. Mbalula criticized Malema for shifting his stance and contributing to political instability.
“He was advocating for a GNU with everybody, long before we even entered the elections. Now when they give him this nickname that he’s a flip-flopper, it is exactly around issues like this. He’s not consistent. He said South Africa needs a GNU, but a GNU to remove the ANC – it didn’t happen.”
