The ANC Bojanala regional executive committee (REC) in North West is facing a troubling wave of violence targeting its members. Recent incidents include the hijacking of a deputy regional chair and the discovery of a dead cat on the doorstep of another REC member.
Thabo “Arafat” Molamu, the party’s regional spokesperson, expressed alarm at the escalating violence against REC members in Bojanala.
Kagiso Moleko, along with two passengers, was held at gunpoint by 10 armed men while returning from an ANC meeting in Mahikeng. The hijackers robbed them before driving them to Soshanguve, where they were eventually released. The incident was reported to the police, who are investigating the case.

In a separate incident, Gugulethu Mtshali, a member of the party’s regional working committee and council speaker at the Moses Kotane municipality, found a dead cat outside her house.
Molamu stated that Mtshali was understandably traumatized by the incident. Although there is no direct link between the cat incident and the hijacking, Mtshali fears that she may be targeted for further attacks.
These incidents come at a time of ongoing tension within the ANC, both at the party and council levels. Some councillors boycotted a council meeting after refusing to rescind their decision to hire a chief financial officer facing charges of fraud and corruption.
This decision has caused divisions within the ANC caucus, with some councillors demonstrating a clear intent to undermine the ANC’s election victory.
Molamu condemned the recent acts of violence against ANC leaders, calling them deplorable and treasonous. He urged law enforcement agencies to do everything in their power to apprehend those responsible for these violent acts.
The ANC Bojanala REC members now live in fear as they continue to face threats and acts of violence. It is crucial for the authorities to take swift action to ensure their safety and bring those responsible to justice. The ANC remains committed to upholding the principles of democracy and will not be deterred by these acts of intimidation.
