Chaos erupted in Elsies River on Tuesday afternoon when a police chase involving suspected “Uber robbers” ended in a collision between a police vehicle (LDV) and a City of Cape Town vehicle.

The incident occurred at around 1pm on the corner of Owen Road and Clare Street, leaving several officials injured and prompting emergency services to cordon off the area.

According to residents, the suspects had attempted to rob an e-hailing driver before fleeing the scene when police arrived. During the pursuit, officers lost control of their vehicle, crashing into a City-owned Toyota Quantum.
