Police Seize R7.7 Million Dagga Haul In North West

Police in the Namakwa district have struck a major blow against the illegal drug trade after seizing dagga worth approximately R7.7 million during routine patrols in the early hours of Wednesday, 5 November 2025.

Two male suspects, both aged 33, were arrested after vigilant officers noticed a suspicious vehicle loaded with boxes at the N7–R382 junction near Steinkopf.

Dagga Seizure During Routine Patrol

According to police, members of C Relief at Steinkopf SAPS were conducting standard patrols when they spotted the vehicle and decided to investigate. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 64.8 kilograms of dagga, packed into several boxes.

The suspects were taken into custody on the scene, and the vehicle used in the transport of the drugs was confiscated as part of ongoing investigations.

Suspects Face Drug-Dealing Charges

Police confirmed that both suspects will soon appear in court on charges of dealing in drugs.

Provincial authorities have praised the officers for their vigilance and quick action, describing the seizure as a significant disruption to local drug trafficking networks.

“This successful interception highlights the effectiveness of routine patrols and the dedication of our officers in combating drug-related crimes,” said a police spokesperson.

The R7.7 million dagga bust marks one of the largest single seizures in the Namakwa district this year.
