Police Seize Firearms And Mandrax In Cape Flats Raids In Kleinvlei, Eerste River And Masiphumelele

Police operations across the Cape Flats have led to the seizure of firearms and drugs, with several suspects now facing criminal charges.

Officers carried out a series of targeted raids in Kleinvlei and Eerste River on Wednesday evening, acting on intelligence gathered by specialised units.

The South African Police Service confirmed that members attached to the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and the Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team spearheaded the operation, resulting in arrests and the confiscation of illegal items.

Intelligence-Driven Raids in Kleinvlei and Eerste River Yield Guns and Mandrax

During the coordinated action, officers searched identified premises and recovered two 9mm pistols along with ammunition. At different addresses, they also seized 100 mandrax tablets.

Three suspects, aged 39, 37 and 21, were arrested on charges relating to the possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition, as well as the possession of drugs.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said, once charged, the suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court.

In a separate operation, officers searched a property in 11th Avenue, Bokmakierie, Athlone, where they discovered 600 mandrax tablets hidden in a cupboard. A 39-year-old man was arrested for possession of mandrax tablets.

Masiphumelele and Athlone Operations Target Illegal Firearms

Further enforcement action unfolded in Masiphumelele, where members of the Ocean View Crime Prevention Unit and Crime Intelligence acted against suspects found in possession of prohibited firearms.

While searching a premises, officers uncovered two 9mm pistols without serial numbers. The suspects were arrested on charges of possessing prohibited firearms and ammunition.

In Sobukwe Road, Masiphumelele, police conducted another search that led to the arrest of an adult male found with a revolver without a serial number and ammunition. He faces charges for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Twigg said the men would appear in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court, once they have been charged.

Police investigations into the cases continue.
