Experts Caution Against Lying Under Oath As Police Probe Brown Mogotsi’s Alleged Assassination Attempt

The alleged assassination attempt that was carried out on controversial North West political figure Brown Mogotsi has sparked widespread speculation and intensified police investigations.

After much silence, Mogotsi has finally provided his statement to law enforcement officials. However, investigators remain cautious, with sources indicating they have not ruled out the possibility that the incident may have been staged.

Legal experts have weighed in, warning that making false statements under oath could lead to serious legal repercussions.

Legal Experts Warn of Serious Consequences for False Testimony

Prominent legal analyst Zola Majavu emphasised that if Mogotsi’s version of events proves untrue, he could be charged with perjury.

“So if it turns out that which he said under oath is untruthful, he will be charged with perjury, which is a serious charge because lying under oath is indeed serious,” said Majavu.

Majavu further explained that authorities might also consider additional charges for obstructing the course of justice if the claims were fabricated.

The legal expert also highlighted that civil proceedings could be pursued if state resources were wasted due to false allegations.

“Whether or not you may be liable for wasting state resources, it is a matter that could be possibly considered under the civil law type of procedure because it would be unacceptable, reckless, and irresponsible,” Majavu added.
