Police Probe Alleged Hit On Controversial Businessman Brown Mogotsi In Vosloorus

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched an investigation following reports of an apparent hit targeting controversial businessman and political fixer Brown Mogotsi in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg.

Unconfirmed accounts circulating on social media suggest that Mogotsi was travelling in a vehicle that came under fire in Vosloorus Extension 25 late on Monday night. The vehicle was allegedly riddled with more than eight bullets, though the condition of Mogotsi and his driver remains unclear at this stage.

In a short statement to members of the media on Tuesday morning, SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed she was on her way to Vosloorus Police Station to verify the reports.

“I’m heading to Vosloorus SAPS to ascertain reports about Brown Mogotsi,” Mathe said.

Police have not yet confirmed whether the shooting indeed occurred or whether there were any injuries, fatalities, or arrests linked to the alleged attack.

Police Ongoing Investigations and Controversies

Mogotsi, a businessman from the North West province, has been under increasing scrutiny in recent months amid multiple investigations into corruption and political interference.

In October, IOL reported that law enforcement officials raided Mogotsi’s business premises in Seweding village near Mahikeng as part of an ongoing probe into alleged irregular dealings and influence-peddling.

Mogotsi, who has described himself as a businessman and ANC volunteer, has been named in testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is investigating claims of political interference within the criminal justice system.

Witnesses at the commission have linked him to controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, alleging that Mogotsi played a role in facilitating cash payments to political figures and leaking confidential police information — allegations he has not publicly addressed in detail.

Previous Safety Concerns

Following the October raid, Mogotsi publicly expressed fear for his life, accusing certain law enforcement figures of targeted harassment.

“I am being targeted because I know too much,” he reportedly said at the time.

The alleged Vosloorus shooting, if confirmed, would mark a dramatic escalation in a saga already marked by political intrigue and criminal allegations.

At present, the SAPS has not issued an official statement confirming the incident, and details surrounding the motive and extent of the attack remain unverified.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as soon as more confirmed information becomes available.
