Police Officers’ Sacrifice Is A Loss To The Nation, Says Acting Minister Firoz Cachalia

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has described the loss of a police officer as a tragedy that extends beyond families and communities, calling it “a loss to the entire nation.”
He made the remarks during the annual South African Police Service (SAPS) Commemoration Day at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, where 27 officers who died in the line of duty between April 2023 and March 2024 were remembered.
27 Officers Remembered for Bravery and Courage
The ceremony paid tribute to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to South Africa. Their names have been inscribed on the honour roll at the Union Buildings.

“Each year, on the first Sunday of September, we remember our brave men and women who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty,” Cachalia said. “Today, we pay tribute to the 27 police officers who lost their lives in the past financial year.
“Their names will now be forever engraved on the honour roll behind us, not merely as names carved in stone, but as powerful reminders of courage, sacrifice, and service to the nation.”
