Police Officer Granted Bail For Raping TUT Student At Graveyard

A 25-year-old police constable stationed at the Bethlehem Crime Prevention Unit has been granted R1,500 bail following his arrest for the alleged rape of a Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) student. The 23-year-old victim reportedly knew the officer before the alleged incident on Saturday, February 22, 2026.

Police Rape Officer Details

According to Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPD) spokesperson Lizzy Suping, the accused fetched the student from her home before driving to a park in Morelig Park.

“According to the allegations, he asked the student to sleep with him, but she refused. The constable then allegedly drove her to a nearby graveyard, where he is accused of raping her,” said Suping.

The victim opened a case the same day, leading to the officer’s arrest. The case has been postponed to April 25, 2026, for further investigation.

Limpopo Man Jailed for Life for Raping Stepdaughter

In a separate case in Limpopo, the Regional Court has sentenced a 38-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter in January 2024 at Gedroogte village in Magatle. The man’s identity has been withheld to protect the minor from secondary victimization.

The court heard that on the day of the incident, the teenager and her mother were doing laundry while the accused worked in the garden. After finishing the washing, the mother left to charge her phone at a neighbour’s house, leaving the child alone with the man.

“The victim went to bathe in her mother’s bedroom. The accused followed her and raped her,” said National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Mashudu Malabi.

After the assault, Malabi said the teenager ran to her mother’s aunt to report the crime. The aunt accompanied her to the police station to open a case. The accused was arrested two days later and remained in custody until the trial’s conclusion. Despite his not guilty plea, the court convicted him, handing down the prescribed minimum sentence.
