Police Officer Arrested In KwaMashu After Cash-In-Transit Shootout Leaves 2 Suspects Dead

A KwaMashu police operation turned deadly on Monday morning when two suspected cash-in-transit robbers were gunned down in a shootout with officers. The dramatic turn of events also led to the arrest of a police officer and another suspect, both allegedly linked to the slain men.

Police had been tracking leads tied to a string of recent armed robberies in KwaZulu-Natal. When officers arrived at a hideout in B Section, KwaMashu, they were met with gunfire.
According to authorities, the suspects opened fire first, wounding a police officer. In the fierce exchange that followed, both suspects were fatally shot.
“The injured policeman is in a stable condition,” officials confirmed, adding that the men killed had been on the run before the confrontation.

The arrests have intensified scrutiny around possible inside connections to cash-in-transit crimes.
