Police Nab Firearm Suspect And Seize Huge Dagga Haul In Western Cape

Members of the South African Police Service have intensified their crackdown on crime in the Western Cape, focusing on gang violence and drug distribution as they continue to arrest suspects with unlicensed firearms and crack down on drug deals.

During stop-and-search operations in the Kraaifontein policing precinct, officers noticed a man acting suspiciously when he spotted them. He attempted to evade arrest but was quickly apprehended.

Police recovered a 9mm pistol with 38 rounds of ammunition from his possession. The suspect is facing charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He is expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court once formally charged.

Major Dagga Seizure in Mitchell’s Plain

In a separate intervention, Operation Shanela II members deployed in Mitchell’s Plain searched a premises in Freedom Park.

Officers uncovered 169 parcels of dagga along with a 50-kilogram bag of the substance. While no arrests were made during the search, investigations into the massive drug discovery are ongoing.

Police say it continues to maintain a strong presence across the Western Cape, with officers carrying out daily operations targeting illegal firearms, drugs, and gang-related activity in the region.

Authorities have urged communities to continue working with police by reporting suspicious activity as the fight against crime intensifies.
