Police Minister Senzo Mchunu Targeted By Political Smear Campaign, Claims Spokesperson

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s spokesperson, Sthembiso Mshengu, has alleged that there is a deliberate political effort underway to tarnish the minister’s name.

“It was the Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi who said they believe that the minister has ambition to succeed the President.

“Therefore, in their dreams, probably they are conniving with a certain particular group of people that are unknown to us in order to tarnish the image of the minister. Hence, we are concluding that there is a political agenda in relation to what is happening,” said Mshengu.

Mchunu, who is currently on special leave, has handed over several electronic devices to authorities as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Mkhwanazi’s Allegations Against Senzo Mchunu

Commissioner Mkhwanazi has accused senior police officials, including Mchunu, of corruption, interference in police operations, and alleged links to criminal syndicates.

These explosive claims have sparked controversy within the police service and raised questions about internal divisions.

Mshengu, however, has dismissed the allegations, asserting that the minister has nothing to hide. He stated that Mchunu’s devices were handed over to investigators in their original condition.

“The gadgets of the minister have never been interfered with by himself.

“He did not delete any apps, he did not delete any numbers or any correspondence with any other person because he has nothing to fear in terms of what may be contained in his gadgets,” Mshengu said.

The devices reportedly include a state-issued laptop, a personal tablet, two unused old cellphones, and one active cellphone currently in use.

As the investigation continues, the situation has intensified political and public scrutiny over alleged internal conflicts and accountability within South Africa’s law enforcement leadership.
