Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia Seeks Briefing From Masemola On Cape Town Gang Violence

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia Seeks Briefing From Masemola On Cape Town Gang Violence

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has called for decisive action against the escalating gang violence in the Western Cape.

He confirmed that he has formally requested a briefing from National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola to gain clarity on the steps the South African Police Service (SAPS) is taking to curb the crisis.

The request comes as Cape Town continues to witness near-daily gang-related killings, affecting both rival gang members and innocent residents.

Religious Leaders Raise Alarm Over Escalating Crisis

Cachalia revealed that his decision was prompted by concerns raised directly by prominent religious leaders. Both the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) and Anglican Archbishop Thabo Makgoba urged him to intervene as gang-related violence spirals in Cape Town.

“So that I understand what SAPS is doing and where the gaps might be. Then I’m going to engage with the religious leaders who have taken the initiative to talk with me on Monday, hopefully,” Cachalia said.
