Police Arrests Man Who Killed His Girlfriend In Maubane After Viral Social Media ‘Confession’

Police in the North West have arrested 26-year-old Mfana Ngwenya after he confessed in a viral social media video to killing his ex-girlfriend in Maubane, outside Hammanskraal.

The body of 20-year-old Kgaugelo Marota was discovered on Thursday near a local tavern in Maubane village with multiple stab wounds. Authorities launched an immediate investigation, which led to Ngwenya’s arrest in Carousel View on Friday morning.

Attempted Murder of Current Girlfriend Shocks Community

According to North West police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh, the suspect also allegedly tried to kill his current girlfriend, who is also 20 years old.

“Further investigations into the matter revealed that the suspect, after allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend, went back to his house, where he stabbed his current girlfriend multiple times,” Myburgh said.

The second victim was rushed to a local hospital, where she is receiving treatment for her injuries.

Suspect to Face Murder and Attempted Murder Charges in Court

Police confirmed that after the incidents, Ngwenya posted a video online detailing his reasons for the attacks. The shocking footage quickly spread across social media platforms, sparking outrage.

Ngwenya is expected to appear before the Temba Magistrates’ Court on Monday. He will face charges of murder and attempted murder.
