Police Hunt Killer After Stabbed Woman Found Buried In Voggelfontein Field

Free State police have confirmed that a decomposed body discovered in a shallow grave near Bethlehem belongs to a woman who was brutally stabbed to death.

The grim discovery was made over the weekend in an open field in the Voggelfontein area, sparking a murder investigation as detectives work to identify the victim and trace those responsible.

Shallow Grave Discovery Shocks Voggelfontein Community

The body was found by an initiation schoolteacher who was collecting firewood in the area. According to police, the teacher noticed something suspicious protruding from the ground and immediately raised the alarm.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said:
“He noticed a shallow grave with what appeared to be human body parts protruding from the ground and immediately alerted the police.”

Officers who rushed to the scene made a disturbing confirmation.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police observed a human leg protruding from the shallow grave,” Mophiring said.

The remains were exhumed and transported to a government mortuary, where a post-mortem examination revealed the violent nature of the crime.

“The post-mortem results revealed that the deceased is a female who sustained multiple fatal stab wounds,” Mophiring confirmed.

Following the findings, police officially opened a murder case and intensified investigations in the area.

Police Probe Missing Person Link and Appeal for Information

Authorities are now working to establish the biological identity of the deceased. Several people have already come forward believing the remains could belong to their missing relatives.

“Further forensic analysis will be conducted on individuals who have come forward claiming the remains, to establish the biological identity of the deceased,” Mophiring said.

Police are also investigating a possible link to a missing person case reported in October 2025 in the Voggelfontein area.

At this stage, no suspects have been identified. Officers are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
