Police Declare Zero Tolerance As Xenophobia Crackdown Targets Perpetrators

South Africa’s Police Ministry has issued a strong warning following recent attacks targeting Ghanaian nationals and other foreign residents, describing the incidents as unacceptable and unlawful.

Acting Minister of Police, Firoz Cachalia, condemned the violence, which has included intimidation and looting, saying such actions threaten both the rule of law and the country’s constitutional principles.

Authorities confirmed that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to respond firmly, with those involved in violence or incitement expected to face arrest.

Police Crackdown On Xenophobic Violence Gains Momentum

The ministry stressed that no individual or group is entitled to take the law into their own hands, regardless of grievances or frustrations.

Police have been placed on high alert to identify and act against perpetrators, as part of efforts to prevent further unrest and ensure accountability.

The police ministry’s spokesperson, Kamogelo Mogotsi, explained: “All those found to be participating in, inciting, or supporting such criminal conduct will be identified, apprehended, and brought before the courts.”

Communities have been urged to remain calm and work closely with law enforcement agencies to prevent the situation from escalating.

Officials are also calling on community leaders and civil society organisations to play an active role in fostering dialogue and strengthening social cohesion.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to upholding the law and protecting all residents within South Africa’s borders.
