2 Arrested in Samora Machel: Police Crack Down on Counterfeit and Illicit Goods

The Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, working with the Provincial Anti-Economic Crimes Task Teams and the Provincial Combat Team, led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a firearm and ammunition as well as a SAPS official bullet-resistant vest.

On February 4, 2025, at around 12:30 PM, a coordinated intelligence-led operation was initiated in Samora Machel in response to allegations of extortionists employing a rifle for criminal activities.

When police arrived at the mentioned address, they executed a search warrant, discovering a gun and ammunition hidden in a black duffel bag under a bed within an informal settlement.

They also confiscated a South African Police Service (SAPS) official bullet-resistant vest found on the shack’s roof. Two suspects were arrested and will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court after they have been charged.
