Police Constable Holds Family At Gunpoint—SAPS Negotiators Race To Save Lives

Mamelodi East is the scene of a tense hostage situation as police units, including Hostage Negotiators and the Special Task Force, respond to reports of a family held captive by one of their own.
Authorities say the incident began around 08:00 when a police constable allegedly took his family hostage inside a residence in the Buffer Zone.
Constable Allegedly Fires Shots and Holds Family
According to initial reports, the constable fired two shots before police arrived on the scene.
He is currently refusing to release his grandmother, nephew, and another young boy. “At this stage we can only confirm the three people inside the house with the constable,” SAPS confirmed.

SAPS officials are actively investigating what led to the situation, working to ensure a safe resolution for the hostages.
“The police on the scene are also investigating the motive which led to this situation,” the statement added. Authorities continue to engage with the constable in an effort to resolve the standoff peacefully.
