Police Colonel Sentenced To 6 Years For Sexual Assault

A former police colonel, Vivani Vivian Zuma, 55, has been sentenced to six years of direct imprisonment for the sexual assault of two women in 2018 and 2019.

At the time of the offenses, Zuma held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and served as the Station Commander at the Umzinto Police Station.

Abuse Of Power

Zuma’s victims were his subordinates at the station.

He would summon them to his office, making inappropriate advances and touching them inappropriately.

Zuma pleaded not guilty, claiming he was in a consensual relationship with the women.

However, the court rejected his version, deeming it false and untrue.

Justice For Assault Victims

The court’s decision brings some measure of justice for the victims, who have suffered significantly as a result of Zuma’s actions.

One victim was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress and depression, while the other incurred medical expenses for counseling services and became socially withdrawn.

The court declared Zuma unfit to possess a firearm, and he will serve his sentence in prison.
