Police Captain Killed In Springs Barber Shop Robbery

A police captain was shot and killed in a business robbery at Gold Finger Barber in Geduld, Springs early Sunday morning.

The fatal encounter occurred around 07:30 when four armed suspects stormed the barber shop, located at the corner of 4th Street and 4th Avenue.

Deadly Shootout Unfolds

According to reports, the suspects forced the occupants to the back of the shop before opening fire. Mr. Satal Ahammed (33) and his two brothers were inside when the gunmen ordered them to lie down.

Captain Du Toit, from Springs SAPS, responded to the scene and engaged the robbers in a shootout. The officer was shot, along with one of the suspects.

Realising that one of their own had been wounded, the remaining criminals dragged their injured accomplice into their getaway vehicle—a black or grey Volkswagen Polo (HC88PCGP)—before speeding off toward Paul Kruger Highway.

Police Officer Succumbs to Injuries

Captain Du Toit was rushed to Parkland Private Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A full investigation is now underway, and the SAPS has called on the public for any information regarding the suspects or the getaway vehicle.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring the perpetrators to justice.
