Police Arrests Suspect In Violent Hlogotlou Robbery Of 2024

A 34-year-old male suspect linked to a violent robbery that occurred in the Sekhukhune District in January 2024, have been arrested.

The arrest was successful following a collaboration between the Limpopo Provincial Investigation Unit and, Groblersdal Public Order Policing.

Details Of Robbery Incident

According to the South Africa Police Service statement on Monday, the arrest, which took place on 09 March 2025 in Hlogotlou, is the result of an extensive investigation into the ambush and robbery of a couple, which left one victim injured.

The  police reports disclosed that,  the incident occurred when a couple, who had just withdrawn a large sum of money from a bank in Groblersdal, were ambushed as they traveled through Sephaku village.

Two masked suspects emerged and opened fire on the victims, striking the male victim in the hip and right leg.

His fiancée remained unharmed. The suspects demanded the money, and the victim complied before the robbers fled on foot.

Despite the swift response from local police, who recovered spent cartridges and live rounds at the scene, the suspects managed to evade capture at that time.

Suspect Arrested with Firearm and Ammunition

On 08 March 2025, the Limpopo Provincial Investigation Unit received intelligence about the whereabouts of one of the long-sought suspects.

The information led to a well-executed operation by law enforcement officers, culminating in the arrest of the 34-year-old suspect in Hlogotlou at around 23:45 on 09 March 2025

The suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and nine live rounds of ammunition.

Efforts have been intensified to locate the remaining suspects involved in the robbery.

The arrest has been welcomed by the Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, who praised the collaboration between law enforcement and the local community in tackling crime.

“This arrest brings us one step closer to ensuring that all involved in this violent crime are held accountable,” Hadebe said.

Court Appearance

The arrested suspect is scheduled to appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court today Monday, 10 March 2025.

He will be facing charges including conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery with a firearm, attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The police service, continue to encourage the community to share information that could aid in bringing the remaining suspects to justice.
