Police Arrest Wife, Son, Grandson For Murder Of 80-Year-Old Businessman In Schoemansdal

Mpumalanga police have arrested three family members in connection with the murder of 80-year-old businessman Freddy George Willis.

Willis was gunned down in his Schoemansdal home on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

The suspects include the victim’s 75-year-old wife, Nomvula Lucy Willis, his 55-year-old son, George Kenedy Willis, and 29-year-old grandson, Kenny Rudolph Willis.

The trio appeared briefly in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, facing murder charges.

They remain in custody and are expected to appear in court again on May 6, 2025.

Freddy Willis Shot At Home After Son’s Visit

According to Provincial Police Spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, George Kenedy Willis had arrived at his parents’ home in a Mercedes-Benz when he was reportedly ambushed by two armed suspects wearing balaclavas.

The attackers allegedly tied him with a cable before entering the house, where they found the elderly businessman seated and shot him point-blank.

The suspects then fled the scene using the son’s vehicle.

A murder case was immediately opened, and investigators launched a thorough probe into the incident.

Investigation Leads To Arrests Of Immediate Family

In a dramatic twist, police investigations led to the arrest of the businessman’s wife, son, and grandson.

Authorities believe the murder may have been premeditated, although a motive has yet to be confirmed.

Brigadier Mdhluli noted that further arrests have not been ruled out as the investigation continues.

Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi commended the investigation team for their swift action.

“This incident is deeply concerning, and we will not rest until all those responsible are held accountable,” he said.
