Police Arrest Suspect In Illicit Mining Crackdown

In the Sekhukhune District, the police have  apprehended a 30-year-old man for illegal mining activities.

The suspect was caught in Matlala Ramoshebo Village, loading sand into a white Fuso truck without a proper mining permit.

Authorities seized several illegal mining tools, including four square shovels, one pick, and the truck involved in the crime.

The suspect remains in custody, with investigations still underway.

Illegal Mining Group Flee In Vhembe District

In a related incident, law enforcement officers conducted a successful operation in the Vhembe District on 14 March 2025.

The Police while patrolling Nzhelele River, encountered a group of illegal miners at the Mphephu Policing area.

Upon noticing the authorities, the suspects fled in different directions, abandoning two shovels and a panga at the scene.

Despite the escape, police managed to track down and arrest five illegal immigrants between the ages of 23 and 47 along Musekwa Road.

The group is now facing charges related to illegal mining and immigration violations.

Ongoing Investigation And Court Appearance

All arrested individuals will appear in the local Magistrate’s Court on 17 March 2025.

The Authorities have disclosed that, it will continue to investigate the growing issue of illegal mining in the province, to ensure that the crime of illegal mining and further damage is prevented from the environment.
