Police Arrest 34-Year-Old Man For Possessing Illegal Explosives

On Tuesday, 22 October 2024, at approximately 15:00, law enforcement officials apprehended a 34-year-old male suspect in the Apel policing area within Sekhukhune District.  According to reports, police were called to a mine site by security personnel who had discovered the suspect in possession of illegal explosives.

Details of the Arrest

Upon arriving at the scene, officers conducted an immediate arrest of the individual and confiscated the illegal explosives in his possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that further explosives were being stored at the suspect’s residence.

Upon securing a warrant, a police team proceeded to the suspect’s home, where they uncovered additional illegal explosives.

Ongoing Investigations and Community Response

The explosives and forensic units were called to evaluate the scene. The provincial commissioner of Limpopo police, Lieutenant General Themba Hadebe, commended the officers for their successful recovery of dangerous materials and the apprehension of the suspect.

The suspect appeared in the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 24 October 2024, facing charges related to the possession of illegal explosives.
