Police Arrest Two Zimbabwean Nationals With Explosives In Barberton Guesthouse

Police in Mpumalanga arrested two Zimbabwean nationals on Sunday, 28 September 2025, after discovering explosives at a guesthouse in New Village, Barberton.
The bust came during an intelligence-driven operation that led officers to one of the rooms where a large quantity of explosives was hidden inside a luggage bag.
Suspects Unable to Explain Explosives Possession
When questioned, the suspects reportedly failed to provide a valid explanation for being in possession of the explosives. Authorities confirmed that both men were immediately taken into custody following the discovery.

Specialists from the Explosives Unit were called to the guesthouse and rendered the scene safe, SurgeZirc SA crime reporter learned.

Police confirmed that the exhibits were secured and sent for forensic analysis. Preliminary findings suggest that the explosives may have been destined for use in illegal mining operations.
