Playing Dead To Survive! Elderly Grass Cutter Attacked By Furious Swarm Of Bees

A routine morning in Cottonlands, KwaZulu-Natal, turned into a nightmare for a 64-year-old grass cutter on Tuesday.

While tending to a property, the man accidentally disturbed a hive of angry bees, sending the swarm into a frenzied attack. He suffered multiple stings across his face and body, leaving him in critical distress.

Residents quickly called Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at around 08:24 after the man became unresponsive. RUSA paramedics and Reaction Officers raced to the scene, only to find the victim conscious but severely stung.

In a desperate bid to survive, he “played dead,” a tactic that helped him avoid further attacks. With the assistance of a local resident, the officers managed to remove him safely from the deadly swarm.

Grass Cutter’s Emergency Response and Hospital Care

The grass cutter received immediate on-site medical treatment before being transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

Authorities have reminded the public to remain vigilant around potential bee hives, particularly during the warmer months when bee activity is at its peak.

Local residents expressed shock at the attack.
