Plane Carrying Nathi Mthethwa’s Body To Arrive In South Africa This Morning

The plane carrying the body of South Africa’s ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, is set to arrive in the country on Friday morning. Mthethwa, aged 58, was found dead more than a week ago in the inner courtyard of a Paris hotel.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has granted Mthethwa a special official funeral, which is scheduled to take place in KwaMbonambi, KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday.

Mthethwa’s Death Raises Questions

While official investigations continue, former Police Minister Bheki Cele has voiced concerns about the nature of Mthethwa’s death, suggesting that the situation may not be as clear-cut as it appears.

Speaking at Mthethwa’s memorial service in Pinetown on Thursday, Cele cautioned against accepting reports at face value.

“Don’t believe what they are saying about Nathi and what they say happened. Another problem is that this is my area of expertise. They are saying a lot of things at the same time, that you can’t follow.

“That’s where the problem starts. You can’t conclude that a person killed themselves within just 12 hours. At the same time, we are being told his cellphone was found metres away from him. These are my views.”

Preparations are underway for Mthethwa’s special official funeral, where government officials, diplomats, and family members are expected to gather to honour his life and service to the nation.

The Presidency has not released further details regarding the investigation into Mthethwa’s death, while authorities in France continue to probe the incident as promised.
