PICS| Foreign National (38) Arrested For Dating 13-Year-Old Girl And Trading Illicit Goods

In a significant operation, a foreign national was arrested in the Northern Cape for alleged statutory rape and possession of counterfeit goods. The South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, confirmed that the 38-year-old man was apprehended after a 13-year-old girl was found living with him. The alleged crime remains under investigation.

Details of the Operation

Authorities discovered counterfeit items worth an estimated R48,634 during the operation, which took place between 11 am and 9.30 pm on October 19.

SAPS units, including Provincial Organised Crime, Provincial Flash (Firearms, Liquor and Second Hand Goods), Delportshoop, and Koopmanfontein SAPS, collaborated to secure the arrest based on information regarding the alleged sale of counterfeit goods in Delportshoop.

Seizure of Counterfeit Goods

The operation led to the search of identified liquor outlets and shops, resulting in the arrest of one suspect and the seizure of counterfeit goods, including liquor, illicit cigarettes, counterfeit medicines, and expired products.

Numerous fines totalling R8,500 were issued for contraventions of the Counterfeit Goods Act 37/1997 and the Gambling and Liquor Act 6/2024.

SAPS Commitment

Colonel Ehlers emphasized the SAPS’s commitment to cracking down on the sale of illicit and counterfeit goods and protecting young women and girls. 

“The Northern Cape SAPS will continue to crack down on the sale of illicit and counterfeit goods as well as the protection of young women and girls,” Ehlers stated.
