PICS| Drug Bust Shock: R13 Million Cocaine Seized At Durban Harbour Hidden In Bus

A major drug bust at Durban Harbour has led to the seizure of cocaine valued at R13 million, with police now hunting those behind the shipment.

The drugs were uncovered on Tuesday during a targeted operation led by the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Durban Harbour Drug Bust Uncovers R13 Million Cocaine

Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said the breakthrough came after intelligence linked a previous drug seizure in Gauteng to cargo entering through Durban.

“Following the recovery of drugs in Gauteng province in April this year, information indicated that the drugs entered the country through the Durban Harbour.”

Authorities activated intelligence operations and began profiling specific vessels suspected of transporting illegal substances.

The operation involved officers from Durban Operational Response Services (ORS) and the Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) unit.

During the search, officers discovered 32 blocks of suspected cocaine hidden inside the air-conditioning compartment of a bus.

Bus Shipment From South America Raises Red Flags

According to police, the buses had been shipped from a South American country and were destined for Gauteng.

“Intelligence was activated, and certain vessels were profiled. During an operation which involved officers from Durban Operational Response Services (ORS) and Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) unit, 32 blocks of suspected cocaine were recovered concealed in the air conditioning compartment of a bus.”

Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to identify those responsible for the shipment and its intended recipients.
