Pensioner And Teen Arrested For Illegal Firearms In Cape Flats Crackdown

A 64-year-old man has been arrested after police uncovered an illegal firearm during a targeted operation in Brown’s Farm. Officers seized a 9mm pistol loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition, along with three magazines, during a search at a property in Khwezana Street.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg confirmed the operation formed part of intensified crime-fighting efforts in the area.

He said: “Members of Operation Lockdown III conducted an intelligence-driven operation in Brown’s Farm and searched a premises in Khwezana Street, and confiscated a 9mm pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition and three firearm magazines.

“They arrested a 64-year-old male for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.”

Operation Lockdown III Arrests Teen and Young Suspect in Separate Incidents

In a separate incident in White City, Elsies River, officers arrested a 19-year-old during stop-and-search operations in Pancrest Street. The suspect was found with a 9mm pistol that had no serial number.

He is expected to face charges relating to the possession of a prohibited firearm.

Twigg confirmed both suspects are due to appear in court soon, stating they will be brought before Athlone and Goodwood courts once formally charged.

Teen Arrested in Atlantis as Police Recover Abandoned Hijacked Vehicle

Police also arrested a 15-year-old boy on Sunday night in Atlantis for possession of an unlicensed firearm. The arrest took place during patrols in Bunting Crescent, where officers noticed a person attempting to flee.

The teenager is expected to appear in the Atlantis Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, officers acted on information regarding a hijacked vehicle taken in Mfuleni and allegedly heading towards Khayelitsha. The car was later discovered abandoned in Graceland.

Twigg said: “The members searched for the vehicle and found it abandoned in Graceland, Khayelitsha on Monday night. The investigation into the matter continues.”
