Parliament To Recall Paul O’Sullivan After Walkout From Ad Hoc Committee Hearing

Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee is preparing to formally contact private investigator Paul O’Sullivan, requesting that he return to conclude his evidence before the panel.

National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza confirmed that she has yet to receive a report detailing the events that led to O’Sullivan’s departure during proceedings.

O’Sullivan exited the hearing on Thursday before completing his testimony, stating that he needed to leave in order to catch a flight.

Parliament To Write To Paul O’Sullivan Over Incomplete Testimony

Didiza said she would determine any possible action only once the committee has submitted its account of what transpired.

The committee’s chairperson, Soviet Lekganyane, indicated that members intend to exhaust procedural steps before considering compelling O’Sullivan’s attendance.

“We must prove that a reasonable action has been taken before we arrive at a decision to subpoena the witness, and the reasonable action we are going to take, honourable members, is the same laborious and tedious action of engaging with the witness, including writing to him to inform him that the committee wants him to appear before it on a particular date,” Lekganyane said.

Didiza reiterated that no decision would be taken until she has formally reviewed the committee’s findings regarding the walkout.

The matter now rests on the committee’s correspondence with O’Sullivan and whether he agrees to return voluntarily to complete his testimony.
