Palmview Murder Suspect Arrested After Dramatic Chase In KZN

A routine Saturday morning turned tragic in Palmview, KwaZulu-Natal, when 21-year-old Maliviwe Ngcongo was shot and killed during an armed robbery. The incident occurred just before 7 a.m. when pedestrians flagged down a Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) officer on a link road between Ottawa and R102 Palmview.

The officer responded immediately and discovered two armed suspects robbing a bleeding Ngcongo, who had already been shot multiple times.

“The suspects opened fire on the Reaction Officer who drew his weapon but was unable to shoot back concerned for the safety of several people in the immediate vicinity that were fleeing for cover,” RUSA confirmed.

Despite rapid intervention, paramedics later declared Ngcongo dead at 07:10. He had sustained three gunshot wounds, including one to the chest, while on his way to work in Cornubia.

Dramatic Chase Ends in Arrest

Following the shooting, the armed suspects fled in opposite directions, sparking a dramatic foot and vehicle chase. With backup support en route, one RUSA officer pursued a suspect who eventually turned on the officer and launched a violent attack.

The officer managed to tackle the suspect to the ground, injuring him during the struggle before placing him under arrest. The second suspect, however, managed to escape and remains at large.

Authorities believe the armed men are connected to multiple robberies targeting motorists and pedestrians around the Palmview/R102 intersection in KZN.

While one suspect is now in custody, the search for the second continues. Residents in the area remain on high alert as police intensify operations to curb the wave of violent crimes.
