SurgeZirc SA is committed to ethical, responsible, and public-interest journalism. This Code of Ethics sets out the principles and standards that guide our editors, journalists, contributors, and partners in the gathering, production, and publication of content.

Our mission is to inform the public truthfully, fairly, and independently while upholding human dignity, democratic values, and the public’s right to know.

1. Truth and Accuracy

  • We seek the truth and report it accurately, without distortion or omission of material facts.
  • All factual claims must be verified using reliable, identifiable sources before publication.
  • Information must be presented in proper context to avoid misleading audiences.
  • Headlines, summaries, images, captions, and push notifications must accurately reflect the substance of the story.
  • Errors, inaccuracies, or ambiguities must be corrected promptly and transparently once identified.

2. Independence

  • SurgeZirc SA operates independently of political parties, governments, corporations, advertisers, and special interest groups.
  • Editorial decisions are made solely by the editorial leadership and journalists, free from commercial or external influence.
  • Journalists must not accept instructions, incentives, or pressure that could compromise editorial judgment.
  • Advertising, sponsored content, and partnerships are clearly labeled and never disguised as news reporting.
  • Editorial staff may not participate in political campaigning or advocacy that creates a conflict with their reporting role.

3. Fairness and Balance

  • We strive to present issues fairly, accurately, and in full context.
  • Individuals or organisations subject to serious criticism are given a reasonable opportunity to respond prior to publication, where practicable.
  • Relevant viewpoints are reflected to ensure balanced coverage, particularly on matters of public controversy.
  • Language must be measured and proportionate, avoiding exaggeration or sensationalism.

4. Accountability and Transparency

  • SurgeZirc SA is accountable to its readers and the wider public.
  • Mistakes are acknowledged openly and corrected without delay.
  • Corrections and updates are clearly indicated within articles.
  • Readers are encouraged to report inaccuracies, ethical concerns, or omissions through our official contact channels.
  • Editorial policies are publicly accessible and reviewed regularly.

5. Respect for Human Dignity

  • We respect the dignity, rights, and humanity of all individuals.

  • Graphic details, imagery, or descriptions are avoided unless essential to understanding the public-interest value of a story.
  • We consider the potential emotional and psychological impact of our reporting on victims, families, and communities.

8. Conflicts of Interest

  • Journalists and contributors must disclose any real, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest.
  • Staff members may not report on or influence coverage of matters in which they have a financial, personal, or political interest.
  • Gifts, payments, travel, or favours from sources or interested parties are prohibited.
  • Any unavoidable conflicts must be declared to editorial management and, where relevant, to readers.

9. Anonymous Sources

  • Anonymous sources are used only when information is of clear public interest and cannot be obtained otherwise.
  • The identity of anonymous sources must be known to a senior editor.
  • The credibility, motivation, and reliability of anonymous sources are carefully assessed.
  • Anonymity is explained to readers wherever possible without revealing the source.

10. Opinion, Commentary, and Analysis

  • Opinion content is clearly distinguished from factual reporting.
  • Opinion pieces must be grounded in verifiable facts and logical argument.
  • Contributors are responsible for the views they express.

  • Archival material is clearly identified as such.

12. Artificial Intelligence and Technology

  • AI tools may assist with research, transcription, or editing but do not replace human editorial judgment.
  • AI must not be used to fabricate facts, quotes, images, or sources.
  • All AI-assisted content is reviewed by editors prior to publication.
  • Responsibility for published content remains with SurgeZirc SA.

13. Plagiarism and Attribution

  • Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited.
  • All quotations, data, images, and third-party material must be properly credited.
  • Original reporting is clearly distinguished from sourced or aggregated content.
  • Copyright laws and licensing agreements are respected.

14. User-Generated Content

  • Reader comments and submissions are moderated in line with our standards.
  • Content that is false, defamatory, abusive, hateful, or misleading is removed.
  • SurgeZirc SA reserves the right to edit, reject, or remove user-generated content.

15. Enforcement

  • All staff and contributors are expected to comply with this Code of Ethics.
