Over 1000 Join Pretoria Protest Against GBVF, “Men That Violate Women Are Not Supposed To Live”

More than 1 000 people from across South Africa gathered at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, uniting in a powerful call to end gender-based violence (GBV).

The crowd included men and women of all ages, each sending a clear message: enough is enough.

The protest coincided with a nationwide shutdown, with participants from every province joining in solidarity. Using the G20 platform, demonstrators sought to amplify awareness about the urgent need to protect women and girls.

Men joining the movement emphasised the responsibility to protect women rather than harm them.

Pretoria Protest Highlights Urgent Call to End Violence Against Women

Kamohelo Metsing, speaking at the event, said, “The women birthed us as men, built societies through that. It is something a man can never experience, and if we are to harm people that bring life to us, what future do we have?”

Protestors demanded an end to the ongoing violence, with many pointing to the societal impact of unchecked abuse.

Kegan Raea remarked, “My question is why they violate women, men that violate women are not supposed to live in this society.”

Nationwide Solidarity and Awareness Drive Against GBV

The Pretoria demonstration is part of a larger movement sweeping the country. The movement reflects growing frustration and determination to hold perpetrators of GBV accountable.

Participants hope that public actions like these will spur concrete measures to ensure the safety of women nationwide.
