A viral footage which sparked outrage in the Western Cape led to immediate action by law enforcement.

This resulted to the arrest of the driver for reckless and negligent driving, as well as endangering the lives of vulnerable young passengers.
The alarming video showed a driver ignoring safety regulations and endangering the children in his care.
Minister Sileku Commends Swift Action By Authorities

Western Cape Mobility Minister Isaac Sileku commended the swift and decisive actions taken by local law enforcement officers in responding to the incident.

Sileku expressed deep concern over the blatant disregard for safety, describing it as deeply troubling that any driver would transport children in such dangerous conditions.
In dismay he said, “It is deeply concerning that any driver would think it is acceptable to transport children in such unsafe conditions.”
While commending the authorities, he said, “Our law enforcement officers look acted decisively, and we commend them for ensuring accountability.”
The Minister further stressed the vital role of enforcing safety measures in transport services used by schoolchildren.

He reminded the public that it is essential for all operators transporting learners to adhere to regulations outlined in the National Land Transport Act.
Parents Urged To Ensure Safe Transport For Schoolchildren
Minister Sileku also emphasized the need for parents and caregivers to actively participate in ensuring their children’s safety during school commutes.
He urged parents to verify that private transport operators are using safe, roadworthy vehicles and that drivers possess the necessary legal authorizations.
“Parents must ensure that drivers have legal authorization to transport learners.” He also urged parents to take practical steps to check that any private transport providers they use are compliant with road safety laws.
The Minister concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to enforcing road safety laws and protecting all road users, particularly vulnerable schoolchildren who rely on transport services for their daily commutes.
