Orlando Pirates New Signing Reveals Why He Chose PSL Over North African Giants

New Orlando Pirates signing Abdoulaye Dine Mariko has confirmed he turned down lucrative offers from several North African powerhouses to join the Buccaneers, affirming the club’s massive continental pull.

Orlando Pirates have sent a strong message to their rivals by securing the signature of Malian Ligue 1 Pro Player of the Season, Abdoulaye Dine Mariko.

The highly-rated midfielder, signed from Djoliba AC, was one of the most sought-after talents in West Africa after a stunning individual season. His acquisition is a massive statement of intent from the Soweto giants, beating out intense international competition to land their man.

Inside Mariko’s Decision

The talented midfielder has now revealed the full extent of the interest he received, confirming that clubs from across Africa were vying for his signature. His decision ultimately came down to the project and prestige of Orlando Pirates.

“There were several clubs that contacted me from all over the world, like in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria. But I joined Orlando Pirates in South Africa. It’s one of the biggest clubs on the continent,” Mariko told Africa Foot.

For Mariko, the choice was clear. The combination of a professional league, a massive fanbase, and the clear desire from the club itself made Orlando Pirates the perfect destination to continue his promising career.
