Julius Malema has reluctantly given his thoughts on the ‘red list’ controversy that is currently dividing South Africa and the United Kingdom.
For tourists from South Africa, Britain’s restrictive COVID-19 travel requirements remain in place, and our country remains on their red list. Arriving citizens from any of these countries must pay tens of thousands of rand to remain in a “quarantine hotel” before being allowed to enter the UK freely. The system, on the other hand, is hopelessly defective.

In South Africa, case numbers are low, vaccination rates are rising, and we are both fighting the same dominant variant (Delta). However, the same people who brought us ‘Brexit’ and ‘freezing cold summers’ have now revealed that most of their anxieties stem from the Beta strain ‘spreading across the country.’
The Beta form is no longer a concern in South Africa, as any epidemiologist worth their salt would tell you. In fact, Delta has become so dominant that the initial mutation discovered on our shores is almost gone. Nonetheless, Julius Malema is unconcerned about any of that; he is preoccupied with a few historical issues.

The EFF leader has proposed that the ANC government compile its own red list, which would include countries with a colonial heritage. “I don’t have anything to do with the UK. We don’t want to be the subjects of our colonial masters. Why should any of us try to go to the UK, and why doesn’t the ANC government put the UK on a red list themselves? They have been red from colonial times. Put them on a red list, ask them for the same visas, because we are equals,” said Malema.
