One Dead And Two Injured After Gunmen Open Fire At Eastern Cape Pharmacy

A shooting at a pharmacy in Qumbu, Eastern Cape, has left one person dead and another injured after gunmen opened fire on a group of customers on Saturday morning.

Police have launched investigations into a murder case and two counts of attempted murder following the attack at the Sejoseng Business Centre on 13 June 2026. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

Eastern Cape Pharmacy Shooting Leaves One Dead

The Eastern Cape pharmacy shooting occurred at around 11:20am when three people arrived at the business premises.

According to police, the group had gone to the pharmacy to purchase face masks. As they approached the entrance, gunfire suddenly broke out, forcing them to seek shelter inside the building.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the body of a 26-year-old man behind the pharmacy counter. He was declared dead at the scene.

Police said one of the other victims sustained injuries to the lower part of the body and was transported to a medical facility for treatment. The third individual escaped the attack unharmed.

The Qumbu pharmacy shooting continued for several moments before the attackers fled the area.

Investigators revealed that the suspects left without taking any property from either the victims or the pharmacy. This has led police to believe robbery may not have been the motive behind the attack.

Crime scene experts recovered several pieces of evidence during their investigation. Police confirmed that multiple rifle cartridges, projectiles and sealed bullets were found at the scene.

The discovery suggests that high-calibre firearms may have been used during the shooting.

The Qumbu pharmacy shooting remains under investigation, with no arrests made so far.

Police said the motive has not yet been established and the identities of the suspects remain unknown. Detectives are continuing to follow up on all possible leads.
