Officer Jailed For Conspiracy To Rob Police Safe Of Firearms

In 2019, Noxolo Perseverance Job, a then 30-year-old police constable attached to the protection and security services (PSS) in Bloemfontein, was arrested by members of the Hawks, formally known as the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation.

Job was convicted by the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and contravening section 120 of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000. Her sentencing is scheduled for later this year.

According to the provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Christopher Singo, Noxolo Job plotted to stage a robbery and steal firearms from a safe at the PSS offices.

In October 2019, she recruited individuals to execute the robbery, even lending her official firearm to the would-be robbers for a payment of R50,000. The carefully constructed plan, however, fell through when a whistle-blower, aware of her schemes, alerted the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team in Bloemfontein.

Acting swiftly upon receiving the tip-off, the Hawks set up a mock transaction which led to Job’s arrest on October 8, 2019.

Since her arrest, Job has appeared in court several times, with the resulting conviction being a culmination of these proceedings. The case has now been postponed until December 9, 2024, when sentencing procedures will begin.

Captain Singo stated that the vigilance of the whistle-blower and the prompt actions of the Hawks were pivotal in ensuring that the planned robbery was thwarted and the involved parties were brought to justice.

Job’s case is a critical reminder of the importance of integrity within law enforcement and the severe consequences of its breach.
