Off-Duty LEAP Officer Fatally Stabbed During Hijacking In Philippi East

Western Cape police have opened a murder case following the death of an off-duty Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) officer who was found stabbed in the Marikana informal settlement in Philippi East on Sunday morning.

According to authorities, the 26-year-old officer suffered fatal stab wounds to his chest. Preliminary reports suggest that he and a female colleague were hijacked earlier in Browns Farm before the attack took place.

Female Colleague Escapes and Alerts Police

Police spokesperson Colonel André Traut confirmed that the female officer managed to escape the scene and immediately alerted law enforcement.

“The swift response by the city’s law enforcement officers led to the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect, while a second suspect is being sought for murder, hijacking, and kidnapping,” said Colonel Traut.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to trace the remaining suspect linked to the violent incident.

Colonel Traut urged members of the public to assist in locating the second suspect who remains at large.

“Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the outstanding suspect is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” he added.

Police have not yet released the identity of the deceased officer as investigations continue.
