Nine minibus taxis were reduced to burnt shells after a fire ripped through the Nyanga taxi rank in Cape Town in the early hours of Friday morning.

Authorities say the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and it remains unclear whether the incident is linked to tensions within the taxi industry.
Firefighters Battle Early-Morning Nyanga Taxi Rank Blaze
Crews from the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services were dispatched to the taxi rank shortly after the fire started.
Firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the flames by around 2am, preventing the blaze from spreading further across the busy transport hub.
According to Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, the damage was extensive but fortunately no injuries were reported.
“Preliminary reports are that five Quantum and four Iveco Sprinters were destroyed in the blaze. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is undetermined.”
Taxi Associations Unable to Confirm Possible Feud Link
The incident has raised questions about whether the fire could be connected to ongoing tensions within the taxi industry.
However, taxi bodies including the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (CODETA) and the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) said they could not confirm whether the blaze is linked to any dispute or feud.

Authorities have not yet indicated whether foul play is suspected. The gutted vehicles — including five Toyota Quantum taxis and four Iveco Sprinter minibuses — were parked at the rank when the fire broke out.
Investigators are now working to determine how the blaze started and whether it was accidental or deliberate.
For now, officials say the exact cause remains unknown as authorities continue their probe into the early-morning fire that left nine taxis destroyed.
