Nvidia Becomes World’s First $5 Trillion Public Company Amid Explosive AI Growth

Nvidia has officially become the world’s first public company to reach a $5 trillion market capitalisation, cementing its dominance as the biggest winner of the global artificial intelligence (AI) boom.

Shares in the tech giant jumped 5.6% on Wednesday, reaching $212.19, following comments from U.S. President Donald Trump that he plans to discuss Nvidia’s Blackwell chips with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday.

Adding to investor excitement, the company’s CEO Jensen Huang said on Tuesday that the company expects $500 billion in AI chip sales and is building seven new supercomputers for the U.S. to support security, energy, and scientific projects — each requiring thousands of Nvidia GPUs.

The company also revealed a $1 billion investment in Nokia, aiming to help telecoms “launch AI-native 5G-Advanced and 6G networks on NVIDIA platforms.”

AI Dominance Fuels Record Growth

The record-breaking milestone arrives just three months after Nvidia surpassed the $4 trillion mark, highlighting its rapid ascent. The stock has surged over 50% this year, fuelled by unrelenting demand for its graphics processing units (GPUs) — essential for training large language models and powering AI-driven data centres.

Nvidia’s GPUs remain in short supply, a scarcity that has only intensified their value. The company’s strategic control over supply and partnerships has helped maintain high demand across the AI sector.

Across the tech industry, optimism continues to swell as AI technologies promise to reshape industries much like the internet did decades ago. A wave of multi-billion-dollar deals, many involving Nvidia, has accelerated the race to expand global compute capacity.

In September, the company announced plans to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI over the coming years, with both companies set to deploy 10GW of Nvidia systems to power OpenAI’s infrastructure.

Nvidia’s Market Power Outpaces Most Nations

With its $5 trillion market cap, the company is now worth more than the combined stock markets of every country except the United States, China, and Japan — a testament to how deeply AI innovation has reshaped global finance and technology leadership.
