Ntando Duma’s Painful Childhood Confession: “My Father Burned Us Inside A Shack”

South African actress Ntando Duma has opened up about one of the darkest chapters of her childhood — her abusive father.

Speaking candidly on the L-Tido Podcast on 20 August 2025, the Shaka iLembe star revealed that the only memories she has of her father are of violence, alcoholism, and trauma.

“The memory I have of my dad was when he burned us inside a shack while we were sleeping,” she said. “He was abusive. He would beat my mom, and when we’d cry, he would beat us too.”

Ntando Duma Grew Up Without a Father

Ntando, who was raised by her mother and grandmother alongside her sisters, said her father disappeared from her life when she was just three years old. His alcoholism, she revealed, shaped her decision to never consume alcohol: “I’ve never touched alcohol in my life because of him.”

Now a mother of two, Ntando admitted that speaking about her past hasn’t been easy, but she believes it’s important to share her truth. Parts of her story will also feature in her upcoming memoir.
