NPA Vows To Secure Lengthy Jail Term For Musician Shebeshxt In Road-Rage Shooting Case

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it is confident of securing a lengthy conviction against Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Chauke, popularly known as Shebeshxt, following a recent road-rage shooting.

The 30-year-old artist, known for his hit Lekompo, faces charges of attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and malicious damage to property. The charges stem from a violent altercation on the road last month, but the NPA says this is not the only case under review.

Prosecutors revealed that several other incidents involving Chauke are being examined from various parts of Limpopo, as the authority works to build what it calls a “comprehensive case.”

Pattern of Violence Could Strengthen State’s Case

According to the NPA, these combined cases may demonstrate a consistent pattern of violent behaviour, with evidence that could be used to strengthen the State’s arguments in court.

The NPA says Chauke’s past public outbursts — including a widely circulated video of him allegedly brandishing a firearm and previous assault allegations — could become admissible in court.

If prosecutors succeed in consolidating the charges, Chauke’s case could be upgraded to a Schedule Six offence, significantly reducing his chances of being granted bail and increasing the potential prison term if convicted.

Limpopo NPA spokesperson Mashudu Dzhangi emphasised the seriousness of the potential classification, saying:

“So you mustn’t tell us about the ordinary things to try and get out on bail; they need to be extraordinary to make him get out.”

Chauke is scheduled to appear again before the Polokwane Magistrates Court next Friday.
