NPA Vows Fair Process In Jub Jub Case After High Court Bail Ruling

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it remains committed to ensuring a fair and impartial legal process in the case involving media personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye.

The authority issued the statement after Maarohanye secured his release on R5,000 bail through an urgent application in the Johannesburg High Court on Tuesday. The television presenter was arrested over the weekend following an alleged altercation with an e-hailing driver in Edenvale.

NPA Reaffirms Commitment To Fair Process In Jub Jub Case

The NPA said it would continue to deal with the matter without fear, favour or prejudice as the legal process unfolds. The authority’s comments come amid growing public interest in the case following Maarohanye’s arrest.

According to prosecutors, Maarohanye faces a charge linked to allegedly pointing an object that could be mistaken for a firearm at an e-hailing driver.

The NPA confirmed that he was granted bail after approaching the High Court on an urgent basis.

Jub Jub Challenges Delayed Court Appearance

In his application, Maarohanye argued that his rights had been infringed by delays in bringing him before court. He maintained that he was originally expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court on Monday.

However, the appearance was later postponed to Wednesday, prompting him to seek urgent relief from the High Court.

The court subsequently granted bail of R5,000 pending his appearance in the lower court.

Pellet Gun Seized As Investigation Continues

The NPA also confirmed that police conducted a search at Maarohanye’s home following his arrest. During the search, officers seized a pellet gun.

Investigators are continuing to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have not disclosed whether the pellet gun is the object at the centre of the charge.

The latest developments come nearly four years after prosecutors withdrew a separate case against Maarohanye involving allegations of rape, assault and attempted murder. At the time, the NPA said there were insufficient prospects of a successful prosecution.
