Notorious Fugitive ‘Mjinja’ Arrested In Gauteng

Linda Hlongwa, also known as ‘Mjinja’ or ‘Putin’, a notorious suspected murderer and extortionist from KwaZulu-Natal, has been arrested in Midrand, Gauteng.

The notorious Hlongwa had been evading the law since July 2020, when he failed to appear in court for charges related to illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Alleged Crimes

According to police, Hlongwa is linked to a string of notorious crimes, including the murder of his 22-year-old girlfriend and her 52-year-old mother.

Hlongwa reportedly shot and killed them at their home in Pinetown on March 18, 2025 in the most notorious way.

He is also accused of extorting money from scholar transport owners, tuckshop owners, and local taxis in Mariannhill and nearby townships.

A warrant of arrest was issued for Hlongwa by the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on September 9, 2024.

The KwaZulu-Natal police are grateful to community members who provided valuable information leading to Hlongwa’s arrest.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, police spokesperson, urges anyone who fell victim to ‘Mjinja’ to come forward and open a case at the nearest police station to ensure justice is served.

Netshiunda said, with Hlongwa behind bars, the community can breathe a sigh of relief, and the police hope to bring closure to the families of his alleged victims.
