“Not All Glam And Gucci”: Inno Morolong Exposes The Price Of Being A Slay Queen

South African reality star and influencer Inno Morolong is once again in the limelight—but this time, she’s calling the shots.
The outspoken socialite, known for her fiery attitude and unapologetic luxury lifestyle, steps in front of the camera for the new Showmax documentary Slay Queens, premiering 31 October.
For once, Morolong says she’s ready to tell her story, unfiltered. “I hardly open up, but this show made me open up about many things. It’s also more about the lifestyle that I’m used to living, so it was easy for me to agree to be part of it,” she shared.
Beyond the Champagne and Designer Bags
To many, the term “slay queen” screams glitz, Gucci, and glittering nightlife—but Morolong wants Mzansi to see the woman beneath the wigs.
“I’m always misunderstood. People always assume the worst, but this documentary made me show my other side, from humble beginnings to where I am now,” she said. “I hope my story inspires young girls from small towns that if I can make it, they can also make it.”

The single mother and entrepreneur admits her rise hasn’t been easy. “In life it’s important to be patient; good things come to those who wait,” she added. “I hope viewers learn that with hard work and dedication, you can achieve almost everything. Furthermore, it’s important to believe in God and put Him first in everything you do.”
The Dark Side of the Slay Queen Lifestyle
While Morolong’s Instagram feed might sparkle, she says the reality behind the “slay queen” image is far from perfect.
“It is not easy being a slay queen. It takes a lot of money and time to maintain that high-standard look,” she admitted. “Some girls fall into debt or end up stranded in foreign countries; others even face abuse or depression but hide it behind the flashy lifestyle.”
Still, Morolong insists the label isn’t as scandalous as it sounds. “People think slay queens are high-class escorts or something like that.

“Even a hardworking woman like Beyoncé can look and be labelled a slay queen, but she’s also a wife and a mother. Some women just love to glam up and look good, and that doesn’t make them bad people,” she explained.
Speaking candidly about the men drawn to this world, she added, “Men are naturally providers. When they feel like flashing money, they always want to be seen with women who look like slay queens. Most men do pay women to always look a certain way so they can shine.”
